Genuine Parts for Repairs with a Guarantee
There’s a lot of parts out there. A lot of bad parts. I guarantee you can find parts cheaper than I can buy them for on sites like Amazon or Ebay any second of the day, any day of the week, any week of the year. There’s a reason, they’re cheaply made in China, Indonesia, Taiwan. . and claimed to be genuinely made parts that if you’re lucky will last you a year. Basically they’re garbage. They go by names as Exact, Johnson, Supco. . .Those are the main ones, but there are plenty more out there.
We only use genuine parts on anything I repair, especially appliance repair. The only exception to that is if we run into a no longer available part. In that case we can make exceptions but have the experience to know where to get parts from and what to look for or who to trust to rebuild them. (In the cases of NLA circuit boards) If it’s not good enough to put in my mom’s washer, it’s not good enough for yours. I take it that seriously.
I’ve seen a lot of knock off brands come up in the last 10 years and a lot of vendors claiming to sell factory parts that ended up being a blatant lie and they should be banned from the internet for selling garbage to people claiming they’re genuine.
I know because I fell for it too
I wish I could put that into smaller print and am not proud to say it but hey, sometimes lessons are learned the hard way. The last time was an Amazon order for dryer door switches about 2 years ago. I was able to find them for about 30% less than I can get them from my supplier for and ordered 5 of them because I read the fine print and did everything I could to believe they were guarantee legit. Come to find out it was a big stinky nicely wrapped pile of crap that was delivered to my door. The switches were pathetic. Just by holding and actuating them in my hand I could tell they would barley work, and not for long. I ended up throwing them away and took it as a learning experience.
We guarantee our work because we use factory parts. We honor the factory part warranty and guarantee our labor for at least 90 days for parts we replace, a lot of times longer depending on the part. The only exception to this is maintaince or symptoms caused from bigger problems or OEM parts not being available. Some of these types of problems include condenser cleanings, thermal fuses, drain cleanings, painting, and hail mary’s due to nla parts, or the circumstances surrounding the repair. I will tell you this at the time of the service call.
To be a good technician you have to be able to trust your parts, and to trust your parts you have to get the good parts. No trust, no confidence. They may be a bit more expensive but it’s usually not that much. In the case of the door switches it may have been $5 difference between the FSP (Whirlpool) and the knock offs. It’s not that big of a deal when it comes down to it.
